Melissa has been in The Best You for 200 days!  She originally joined for weight loss but after 30 days on the program, she was shocked that she wasn’t taking over the counter medication or prescription muscle relaxers for pain anymore!  Her cronic pain is virtually gone!  Read more of Melissa’s story below…

Melissa P After (with daughter) Where do you live (city / state)?
Albia, Iowa What is your WHY for joining The Best You and eating AIP? Do you have a specific diagnosis?
My initial reason for joining the Best you and choosing AIP is due to the fact that my cholesterol is creeping up and my Nurse Practitioner wants to put me on medication to lower my numbers. I still need to go back in for my check up. However, since then I have added another big WHY. The awesome support from the Besties in this group and I noticed within four weeks of starting this lifestyle, my chronic pain was mostly gone! How did you learn about The Best You?
I learned about The Best You by watching one of Tracey’s lives about painting furniture. From there, I started following Tracey and saw a comment posted on her Live when she was in her bedroom and telling everyone about her new diagnosis. From there I started watching more of her videos. When did you join The Best You? What is your #number?
I joined in October and On May 24th I will be #200/49ish. I turn 50 this August! Share your successes!!
My main success is the decrease in inflammation and chronic pain. I am still amazed that the foods we eat or don’t eat can affect our bodies like this! Have you re-introduced any foods yet? If yes, what and what were the results?
I have officially re-entered eggs. I live on a small farm and we have a few chickens. I have always loved fresh eggs and I was thrilled when I had no reaction when I reintroduced them. I am not sure yet what I want to try next. What tricks / tips made this life easier?
I love my morning “green” juice! Depending on my schedule I will batch a weeks worth of juice and freeze it and other times I will juice daily. I love the flexibility of this lifestyle. I know juicing isn’t technically part of AIP however I love the fact that we are getting our own concentrated version of real liquid vitamins every day.

List your top THREE AIP go-to meals.
My favorite meal is Tracey’s Night Time Smoothie. This is my go to breakfast since I usually make this and go!

My second favorite is the big salad with sweet potatoes, chopped apples, mixed greens, avocado with coconut aminos used as a salad dressing and a little sprinkle of salt.

My third favorite is stir fry. Stir fry is so flexible you can use anything you have and I use Tracey’s “House Seasoning” of himalayan salt, garlic powder, and cinnamon cooked in Coconut oil and Coconut Aminos. My current favorite is sliced sweet potatoes, broccoli over riced cauliflower and a side of protein. This past week I used ground hamburger one day and another day I used a serving of rotisserie chicken.

List your favorite AIP snacks.
I love smoothies, apples, carrots, frozen grapes, sweet potatoes fries and pitted dates lightly dipped in 100% Cacao. How do you stay AIP compliant outside your home (work, social gatherings, traveling, etc)?
This is a tough one since I work from home mostly. On the days I do work on site, I usually bring a smoothie for breakfast and then go to the salad bar and fill up and bring my own coconut aminos for salad dressing. I’ve also brought an avocado and sliced it up over my salad to before. I just attended my first graduation party for this year and I had a smoothie before we went. This helped with the temptations. My husband and I have also gone to a nice seafood restaurant and I had a nice salad with grilled salmon and brought my own pitted dates for dessert. I was VERY happy and satisfied when we left! What other lifestyle implements have helped with your success (sleep, stress management, exercise)?
I am working on strengthening my back and core muscles. I could not resist getting the Feet Up after seeing Tracey do her routine on Instagram! I am not as proficient as she is, by far! But I am improving! Just getting my feet up in a handstand position and hanging out feels great on my neck. When I do come down from an upright position I work on bringing my legs down as slow as I can.

What advice would you give to someone justing starting The Best You?
Follow Tracey’s steps and don’t get ahead of the program. I’m sure most people, like me, get excited and want to get started now and do all the thing. It’s human nature and we also want to see results now! I am the same way. We did not get to the point of wanting or needing to change overnight. I yo yo dieted for decades. Once I hit the 30 days in AIP and realized I wasn’t taking over the counter medication or prescription muscle relaxers for pain, I was amazed!
