Have you noticed a huge trend in whimsically painted furniture on social media? Harlequin patterned furniture is back!
I knew it would come back around!!! Gray and white farmhouse could only be tolerated for so long!
I want to say thank you to EVERY single one of you for sticking around while I continued to create whimsical pieces of furniture during a whimsical drought!!! I appreciate your color loving hearts! I couldn't be happier to see others enjoying color and pattern once again!
I thought it would be fun to take a look back at some of my harlequin patterned furniture pieces specifically! It speaks "whimsical" to me more than any other pattern.
This is one of the very first pieces I painted with harlequin. It was also what started me on the black and white aspect of my branding.
This dresser set below was a custom order for an Alice in Wonderland baby nursery....and the harlequin accents against the bright colors is when I realized I appreciated the black and white as a neutral.
I learned to use harlequin in subtle tones for those clients that wanted a touch of whimsy but were not able to embrace color.
I started using harlequins in bold colors as accents such as this pop of red.
I then began using harlequin not only with other colors but with other patterns as well. I used stripes and harlequin on a very large armoire such as this piece here.
This whimsical armoire here is my favorite harlequin piece to date. Not only is it an exquisite piece....but the colors used are completely unexpected! And it needs to be said, I would not have been able to achieve these same vibrant colors without my favorite chalk paints from Dixie Belle Paint Company. The colors and coverage is incredible!
Do not overlook the opportunity to use harlequin as a background to other designs such as the growth charts HERE. The harlequin does not steal the show but serves as a compliment to the overall design behind the featured flamingo and ostrich.
Harlequin is a smart design as well! It can turn the smallest project into a feature piece with its sharp lines and royal vibe...such as the pet bed and children's dress up cart.
And don't think it is a pattern just for furniture. I have painted harlequin on many walls too!
My more recent harlequin patterns tend to be black and white. I am using a lot more colors and patterns together at this time and I rely on the black and white patterns to tone down the over all vibe - like this blanket chest.
My craziest harlequin project would have to be my life-sized coffin that I had Matt make for me last Halloween! I cannot wait to display this in my dining room again this year! We love Halloween!

By the way....it took me several hours of going through old project photos to compile this blog! I can't believe how many harlequin pieces I have painted with Dixie Belle Paint over the years! My FB LIVE fans timed me the other day! It is confirmed that it takes me exactly 20 seconds to free hand a 4" harlequin!!!! BAM!
