Do you have a piece of furniture that you've been dying to paint but just can't find your vision???
Let me tell you, I hear this all the time!! And every once in awhile it happens to me too!
THIS DESK for example!
I've wanted to paint it for MONTHS.....but I just couldn't find direction!
Until I saw THIS!!!

The gorgeous wall art stopped me in my tracks and I KNEW I wanted to recreate it onto the surface of my desk!
When I was a little girl my uncle introduced me to geo stones.... that he would cut and grind at home as a hobby....and I can remember being completely mesmerized by the colors and sparkles and movement in each stone...and being completely SHOCKED that such beauty was hidden beneath what looked to be a normal ROCK?!?!
Once I made the decision.....my desk surface was COMPLETE within less than 12 hours....because that is what happens when I get excited! I....just.....don't.....wait!
I chose metallic gold to trim the desk surface....and fell in love with the two colors together!
I decided to take it a step further and incorporate the metallic gold into the main design.....and WOAH!
I just had to step back and bask in the glory! LOL! Not kidding y'all......as in lots of pride and satisfaction happened!!!
AND THEN.....I got a little carried away and actually "splattered" some gold paint across the surface!
Seriously had to tell myself to "step away from the desk Tracey....step away from the desk"!
It did take me another day or two to decide on the base color for the desk.
I was a bit stumped. I didn't want to compete or distract from the surface. Black was too strong. White was too stark. Tea Rose was too beige.....Soft Pink was too pink.
I decided I liked the direction of the pink tones...and mixed my own blush color using Tea Rose and Soft Pink 50/50 (by Dixie Belle Paints and listed below). I am very pleased with the final look!
I chose to keep the body of the desk very simple. The muted blush tone accented with the glamorous gold on the hardware and base of the desk....is all that was needed.
The faux malachite technique is quite simple AND fun....I just failed to photograph the process. That happens sometimes when I get excited...I just start working and forget to document my steps!
I hope this malachite desk inspires you "think outside the box".....as that is why you are here in the first place...right?
Here in #fancyland, we don't even know what "the box" is.....unless we are painting it!
And if you just dying over the little pig......you can get him here. Don't be confused...he's dark brown....I spray painted him GOLD....because all flying pigs should be gold!
