Mid-century furniture pieces were so sexy weren't they?

I actually LOVE the original finish of this nightstand and really struggled to put paint on it.
However it was the perfect fit for my clients custom order and knowing how excited she was to receive her painted pieces..... I set aside my hesitation. And maybe, I should also mention that this nightstand was found at my local Goodwill, so I virtually saved it from the dump anyway! What a great find!!

I wanted to keep this project as simple as possible so I chose to go with SILK "all-in-one" paint by Dixie Belle. SILK has a built in blocking primer and a built in top coat. Just the fact that I get to eliminate the step of adding a top coat is worth it to me! It dries with the most beautiful eggshell sheen. I chose Endless Shore for its soft off-white tone and I couldn't be more please with the outcome. I'll list below my exact steps to achieve this finish.
Washed and rinsed well with White Lightning to remove all old oils and dirt and to test for bleed-through.... which I did get..... so a primer would be necessary.
Primed with BOSS gray (1 coat). SILK contains a blocking primer already. When dealing with bleed through you need to apply two coats of primer. So I counted my coat of BOSS... plus the coat that the paint already contains.... as my 2 coats. I applied my primer using the brush/roller technique (see YouTube for demonstration). Brush on..... follow with roller to remove brush strokes. Let dry.
Painted with SILK in Endless Shore (2 coats) using the brush/roller technique. By using a brush first you are able to get into the trim areas and the brush delivers more paint than the roller will alone. So lay down your paint with the brush and use the roller as the smoother-outer! LOL!
Stenciled the little pop of surprise to the drawer-sides using the new Lotus Bloom stencil. I love the beaded swag look and felt it was a nice compliment to this simple design. I used a premium chip brush and Endless Shore to apply it.
The original hardware was spray painted with a gold metallic paint and re-attached for the final look!
AND THAT IS IT!!!! No top coat needed! I LOVE that part!!! I must admit even though I didn't really want to paint this one.... I do love the new look! It is crisp, clean and fresh!! I love these side by side photos! I'm curious to see if you prefer the painted or unpainted! I'd love a comment from you letting me know!
ps...... I'll let you in on a little secret! This nightstand will not stay this way. It will be fancied up again in just a few short weeks.... adding more bling and embellishments that I can't wait to show you! So in the end.... we will have a BEFORE>>>>DURING>>>>AFTER!!!
