I realize that most of you know me as a furniture painter….. which is usually attached to a visual of me in my garage with paints and a drop cloth and my latest piece of furniture….. sporting Matts old t-shirt and paint splattered yoga pants and my bare feet. I’d have to say that 50% of the time….. that is a correct description.
However…… I am also an online health and wellness coach, a live video coach, and an online encourager for several Facebook groups. This would be me….. in my new office makeover….. in decent clothes….. a nice chair….. good lighting….. a computer…… maybe some mascara….. and still my bare feet! I hope you enjoy the new office makeover.
I recently shifted my FAVORITE office ever…. from one room in our house to another….. because we really needed a more centrally located teen hang out room for Zadie…. if you get my drift! A room we could see into from multiple angles…. LOL….. and that was my office space. I moved into our spare bedroom which was serving as our guest room and the grandkids playroom. This meant I needed to create a space that I could work in, still allow a space for guest to sleep, maintain a space for the grandkids to play…… and still feed my creativity and personal need for order.
I’ve divided the blog into sections per item:
I began with wallpaper. I searched and searched for paper that spoke to me. It was a tough search as my previous office wallpaper was so bold, lively and fun! Something was really drawing me to the darker colors….. or dark backgrounds with bold colors. After days of searching I came across this butterfly wallpaper and I KNEW the minute I saw it….. it was meant for me in my new space. (I have listed all products below in the shop section for easy shopping). I do not have an affiliate link for this paper….. but I’m happy to share where I got it. I will warn you though…… it claims to be peel and stick…. and it did not stick for us. We have a lot of wallpaper experience…. and this peel and stick was sub par. I will say the paper itself is durable and high quality with the most vibrant printed on colors! We hung the paper in an evening after lots of measuring and cutting. The next morning a large majority of it had fallen off the wall into a crumbled mess. We were able to apply wallpaper paste and rehang. So save yourself the waste of an entire evening….. and just use wallpaper paste to begin with!
Desk, Chair & Printer Cabinet
Once I had the wallpaper chosen I moved forward with the ordering of my desk. My previous desk was a HUGE executive desk and just way too much desk for me. I chose to go with a much smaller campaign desk in a bright sunshine yellow! It only has two small drawers for storage so I also ordered a small storage cabinet on wheels to hold my printer and office supplies. I chose a gorgeous deep teal velvet rolling desk chair and I absolutely love it!
I really wanted a sofa in my office….but one that could also be used as a bed. I do NOT like sleeper sofas….. but my daughter and son-in-law have a more contemporary convertible bed in their media room that I have slept on many times and found it to be quite comfortable. And guess what….. when I looked it up online…. it was available in a magenta color!!!! It’s really NOT the style I wanted. I would have loved a long rolled arm chesterfield sofa or curvy french day bed sofa….. but this was much more practical for the sleeping needs…. and the color was spot on…. so I went for it! There is storage in the long ottoman part for bedding and the mattress pad topper I use. It’s really easy to set up for sleep and makes into a full size bed.
I was concerned the rug would be too busy with the wallpaper…. but to be honest….. it pulls every single bright color from the wings of the butterflies and the balance is quite genius by accident!
I waited to get the wallpaper hung to make the decision on my back wall. I originally planned black and off-white vertical stripes…… as I thought this would be useful as a back drop in my live videos since stripes are part of my branding. But once the gorgeous butterflies landed in this space I realized I was craving a place of growth and inspiration like sitting beneath an old oak tree…… so I just went for it! I ordered two boxes of the boxwood squares and I couldn’t love the look more! It’s as if I am transported to a fairytale every time I walk in here! I feel as if I’m in the center of one of those boxwood mazes in the garden of the Queen of Hearts! Its exactly the feel I wanted!
Wings (ok feathers) and a crown….. need a say more? My only regret is I bought the smaller of the two….. I wish I’d gone larger!
I cannot even tell you how much these simple shutters transformed this room! Just look at the sided by side of the photos! They are not cheap! But they are not the most expensive! And they get to you FAST! I had them within TWO weeks! Thats unheard of for custom shutters! Most people wait 8 weeks or more! The company was so easy to work with…. responsive to emails…. and follow up was fantastic! I have since ordered two more sets! Because they are a hit on the budget….. I am doing a room at a time. They are so gorgeous…. and super easy to install! Matt had these hung in 10 minutes….. and I”m not exaggerating! If you’ve considered shutters….. give this company a try! You won’t be disappointed (and no…. I was not paid to say this nor do I benefit from sending you to them!).
Call me crazy…. but I just had to have this sign! And now I want to buy one for everyone!!! It was easy to order… fully customizable…. you pick the size, the color, the font, the layout etc! I received it crazy fast…. just a couple of weeks and it was here! I sized it specifically for that old frame that I’ve been using for staging my furniture pictures! I painted it a gaudy gold…. and filled it with the boxwood scraps from my wall. And then we just mounted the neon sign right in the center of it all! It might be my favorite part of the entire room! This sign was from someone on Etsy. You can search for one there.
That is mine. I painted it by hand a few years ago. You can read about it HERE. Or you can purchase a tutorial that teaches you exactly how to do yours right HERE! I couldn’t believe how great it went in my new space…. I didn’t have to tweak a single color on it!
I purchased that chandelier a couple of years ago from an account I follow on Instagram. I had no idea where I would hang it but I just knew I had to have it. And look at it now! It’s as if it was planned! I love God-wink moments like that!
COMING SOON! I currently have an old pop corn ceiling. That will be going BUH-BYE and I have something really fun planned for overhead! Don’t you worry…. you’ll be the first to know when I begin that project!
And that’s it! I’m in my office at this very moment typing this blog and just so very happy with it all! I’ve already tested the sleeper sofa too! I had #fancygrand #3 over for a sleep over and she really wanted to sleep on the “pink” couch! It wasn’t bad!
I am hoping I’ve inspired you to create a space for YOU! A space that really speaks to your soul…. and allows you to be still and smile and dream all at once! Like being under a big old oak tree!
