Amy has been a member of The Best You for more than 400 days. She originally joined The Best You to lose weight and gain confidence. After more than a year in the program, her weight loss results are incredible! But more than anything, Amy considers her biggest AIP success to be her new outlook on life – feeling happier, smiling more and having fun!

What is your WHY for joining The Best You and eating AIP? Do you have a specific diagnosis?
Most of my life I didn’t have a problem with my health/weight.
In 2012, I had skin cancer on my face which left a scar between my eyes and curved over my nose. This took my self-esteem away. In 2014, I had a full hysterectomy. This changed me in so many ways, both physically and mentally. In 2016, I had 4 vertebrae fused.
Although the surgery helped me, I stopped moving/exercising like I should. I gained weight and I started to doubt myself.
How did you learn about The Best You?
I followed TraceyFancy and her Fancy Food Friday. I just happened to see her on the day she announced she was sick and I would check in from time to time.

More than anything, being on AIP has changed my outlook on life. I’m happier! I have lost weight, which is great, BUT I’m happy! I smile more and have fun.

Have you re-introduced any foods yet? If yes, what and what were the results?
I do the 80/20 AIP and I have re-introduced many things.
I have brought back tomatoes, cheese, and beans. I haven’t had any reaction to them. I only have them every once in a while, not every day like I used to.
My body doesn’t like peppers or popcorn (stomach aches)
What tricks/tips made this life easier?
I keep all MY food at eye level and in convenient spots. All other foods I would place out of sight. I wouldn’t buy as much junk for my family. I found that they weren’t asking for it, I would just buy it for them out of convenience.
List your top AIP go-to meals…
Can I say salads three times? I do love sweet potato chips with avocado! I also would make a turkey or beef burger and cover it with avocado.
List your favorite AIP snacks…
Bananas, apples, almonds, and avocado
How do you stay AIP compliant outside your home (work, social gatherings, traveling, etc)?
Since I am 80/20 AIP I would choose the healthiest options at gatherings. There are almost always salads and meat at our gatherings. I’ve also taken apples and bananas with me in the car many times.
What other lifestyle implements have helped with your success (sleep, stress management, exercise)?
I fall right to sleep now and when I wake up in the mornings, I’m wide awake! No grogginess.

What advice would you give to someone just starting The Best You?
Remember to give yourself some grace.
We all have had that moment when we fell back into old habits. Just know it was an OLD habit and you are forming NEW ones one day at a time.
Do what Tracey tells you for that week and build on that.
