It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to paint a french provincial piece like this romantic metallic dresser.
It's hard to believe I used to paint whole bedroom sets of this type of furniture about 10 years ago when I first started this business. It has become so difficult to locate this style in the raw here in Texas!
I believe my last french provincial piece was Rust and Roses.....and oh my gosh that dresser got so much attention. In fact...it made it as Miss May in the 2020 Dixie Belle Calendar!! You can see that HERE.
Ok. Back to THIS metallic dresser...the traditional yellowed ivory went completely dark and dramatic with the use of just two Dixie Belle chalk paint colors...
...Dixie Belle Caviar topped with their Moonshine Metallics in Rozay!
I painted the entire piece in two coats of Caviar. I then topped with a single coat of Rozay using a pouncing technique.
This technique leaves texture behind which adds depth and interest to your furniture.
It also gives a "see-through" appearance allowing the black to show through leaving shadows...which is exactly what I wanted.
I then enhanced all insets and edges using a brush and a combination of Vega decor wax by Redesign with Prima and Best Dang Wax in Black by Dixie Belle.
You can see from this up close side view how much depth the dark wax added to this drawer front.
This piece did require two of the handles to be replaced as the others were lost. I pulled from my stockpile....and drilled new holes that you can see here
....and the new handles completely covered the old holes so I didn't even need to fill them! Bonus!
I added stripes along the bottom using the Vega wax. Wax stripes are so easy!!! You can learn more about them on my blog over this little nightstand...
The entire piece is sealed with Dixie Belle Paint's Top Coat in Satin! Don't you love the metallic sheen?
I love the Moonshine Metallic paints! I've done many pieces with them.....the china cabinet using Pacific, the rust and roses dresser using Deep Woods and the Marilyn bed using Gold Digger...to name a few.
I hope you are inspired to try the metallic paints! You don't have to paint the entire piece...just use it as an accent to add a little fancy glamour to your home!
