Painted Chair Retreat at Home: A Creative Experience Like No Other

Over the past few weeks, something really special happened inside my little corner of the internet.
I hosted my very first Painted Chair Retreat at Home... a nine-hour experience spread across three Friday nights....where women from all over gathered online with one shared goal: to paint a chair.
If you've been around here long enough, you know that painting chairs has become a big part of my creative journey. But what happened during this painted chair retreat at home went far beyond paint and fabric. It became something more! It became a community.

If you are a new reader, hello and welcome to the Fancy Fam! With over a decade of furniture painting experience, I can honestly say that sharing my projects through this blog is still my favorite way to inspire! I've got years worth of fun and creative ways to update your home decor and furniture through paint! If this sounds like something you'd like to have delivered to you every Sunday be sure to sign up for my weekly newsletter here!
The Heart Behind the Painted Chair Retreat at Home
We logged in together week after week, each woman bringing her own, chair, her own ideas and sometimes loads of questions along the way.
There were brainstorming sessions.
Moments of "I'm not sure about this,"
And plenty of encouragement flowing back and forth.
That is the beauty of creating together!
Why Creating Together Changes Everything
Instead of sitting alone trying to figure things out, these women had a virtual room full of creative friends cheering them on.
When someone hit a roadblock others chimed in with ideas.
When someone tried something new the whole group was there for the outcome.
Creativity has a way of bringing people together!
Watching Confidence Grow Through Creativity
Over the course of nine hours together, I watched confidence grow.
I saw women push past hesitation and trust their instincts.
I watched the designs evolve in ways none of us expected.
And the chairs? They are incredible!
The Painted Chairs: Each One Tells a Story
In this blog, I am sharing the two chairs that I completed during this course, along with several of the finished chairs that have already started coming in from the ladies inside the retreat.
Each chair is totally different... and each one tells a story.
Some are bold.
Some are whimsical.
Some are elegant.
But every single one reflects the personality of the women who painted it.
That is what I love most about this kind of work.
More Than a Class: A Creative Community
If there's one thing this experience reminded me of, its that learning something new doesn't have to be a solo journey.
For many people, signing up for an online class or creative workshop can feel a little intimidation at first. But the truth is, these spaces often become the most supportive environments you could ask for.
You find people who understand your excitement.
Who encourage your ideas.
Who celebrate your wins!
Before you know it, you aren't just taking a class.....you are part of a creative community!
And that is exactly what happened here.
I am so proud of the women who said yes to this experience and trusted me to guide them through painting their chairs. Their creativity, kindness, and willingness to support each other made this new style of "retreat" something really special.
Take a Look at these Beautiful Chairs!
Along with a sample of the stunning and unique chairs created by the women during the retreat, I'm also sharing some of the real-time feedback from the group so you can truly get a feel of the positive, encouraging vibe that these types of online class evoke.

Painted Chair Retreat at Home: Now Available Anytime
One of the questions I've been asked several times since wrapping up the retreat is, "Will you offer this again?"
While I don't know exactly when I will host another live version, I am excited to share that the full retreat is now available as a pre-recorded course on my website.
This means you can still experience the entire process at your own pace from the comfort of your home.
The lessons walk you through everything we covered during our nine hours together—from planning your design to bringing your chair to life with paint, paper, patterns and personality.
Even though the retreat has ended... the creativity doesn't have to.
If you've ever looked at a chair and thought, "I wish I knew how to do that," this course was created for you!
