Third times a charm! Presenting my PINK painted Bombay chest!
YES....I have now painted this same Bombay chest THREE times!

I'm not too proud to admit that even I sometimes struggle to find the right look for a furniture piece.
It's really no different than redecorating a room in your home several ways before finding the best fit....or trying a new hair color or a new style of clothes. I actually really enjoy changing things up in my life....and that spills over into my business as well.
If you are a new reader, hello and welcome to the Fancy Fam! With over a decade of furniture painting experience, I can honestly say that sharing my projects through this blog is still my favorite way to inspire! I've got years worth of fun and creative ways to update your home decor and furniture through paint! The Many Lives of this Bombay Chest...
I really do like this most recent finish in comparison to the two others.
The original wood finish was just too dark and heavy for me.

The first painted finish was SO MUCH fun to create....but very abstract and probably too crazy for someone to try and incorporate into their home.
The second painted finish was to show off a new paint color offered by Dixie Belle. While I do love the Blue Grass color and the metallic gold highlights....the finish just felt too formal for my current mood and liking.
Of course I have blogs for both of these projects...check them out!
Pink Bombay Chest: The Design Plan
I really wanted to showcase the curves and carving of this piece as well as drive home the feminine shape. However, I didn't want to paint or embellish the carvings.....I really wanted a bold one-color finish.....and decided pink was the color to do this with.
I posted on my social media channels and crowd sourced opinions...asking for help in choosing between Prickly Pear and Peony.
I received over 1000 votes....and they were pretty evenly divided between the two pinks. However, many mentioned using the two pinks together....and I really liked that idea! So that's exactly what I did!

Pink. Pink. PINK!
I really like the way the Peony pink takes on a "glow" when painted next to the Prickly Pear. Peony almost shifts in color to more of a coral...just ever so slightly. I LOVE blending colors and watching them dance around each other almost as if they are magic.

I left Prickly Pear in the centers of the drawer front.....and blended outward toward the drawer edges with Peony.
I wanted a much deeper look on the outside edges so I brought in a deep brown called Coffee Bean. It is almost black in color....so I used very little of it to just deepen the Peony to add depth. This allows the center curves of the drawers to almost shine with light!
I followed this same technique on the top surface of the dresser by using Prickly Pear in the center, Peony encompassing that... and then a final blend of Coffee Bean on the outer edges.
This leaves a central glow on the top surface that is so pretty!

PRO TIP: Using the Big Daddy brush to blend the colors together (especially on the dresser top surface) is key to an EASY BLENDING experience!!! If you don't own this brush.....you should!
To enhance the glow of the finish....I chose the Gloss Top Coat. I rarely use this on furniture as it's not a sheen I am usually after. I use gloss A LOT on my whimsical home decor pieces. However, on this chest I really feel like it adds a level of glam that just works!

I LOVE Peony so much that I have a blog dedicated to my favorite Peony projects. See all the best peony pieces HERE.
A Gorgeous Hidden Surprise
For the final pop of femininity, I added the GORGEOUS Blushing Blooms decoupage paper to the drawer sides.
This is also something I don't do very often as it just seems pointless. LOL! Just being honest.....I mean who really sees this feature? But with this piece being painted over a THIRD time....I thought maybe adding that extra touch was only fair!

I listed the products used in the supply list. Don't forget your satin top coat for the decoupage process. It is the best decoupage medium on the market!!!

This paper is size A2.....and to put that into words you understand.....I used two packages to complete all six drawer sides.
