A Christmas elf gumball machine brings holiday cheer

A SIMPLE elf gumball machine.....just in time for Christmas!

Very often my ideas come to me in my sleep......as did this. I actually dreamt of a Santa gumball machine and an Angel gumball machine....but instead......an elf was born! Maybe I'll create the other two next year!

I refer to this one as SIMPLE.....simply because it is just the machine and Dixie Belle Paint (and a cheesy dog costume)! There are no molds or stencils or transfers.....just an idea and paint!

As with all the others, I recommend a layer or two of Dixie Belle's Slick Stick prior to painting. I did choose to paint the base of this machine red as you can see here with my granddaughter Harlow.

I realize the machine was already red....but I wanted a brighter and happier red like Honky Tonk Red! I mean.....something called Honky Tonk has to be a fun color!

It really is the perfect Christmas red... see Honky Tonk Red on my Santa Desk here!

So two coats of red and let dry.

I then drew the design of the elf collar with a piece of chalk and filled in that space with a custom mix of Evergreen and Tree Frog Green for what I believe is the perfect Christmas green!

I added a small outline of metallic gold and jingle bells using Gemstone Mousse in Gold.....having watered it down every so slightly until it was more of a paint consistency and less of a mousse. I love the versatility of the mousse for that very reason!

I then used Fluff to add the freehanded stripes around the base...using a 1/2" flat square bristled artist brush. I also added white stitching around the Elf's collar with a tiny outline brush.

I finished this off by using the Gemstone mousse to paint the entire faceplate/coin slot! I painted the carved leaves with red to represent poinsettias....and added little tiny dots of green for berries.

The entire piece is top coated with Top Coat in satin for durability, protection, and a nice sheen.

The little puppy hat fits perfectly over the lid. In fact, it isn't even glued on....so you can still unscrew the lid and add more gum. Because how fun would an empty elf gumball machine be???

A quick tie of the scarf and it's done!

I'm telling you.....2020 has been the year of the gumball machine for me! It all started with THIS gumball machine made for my fancy grand last Christmas. See ALL the gumball machines that followed HERE!
