Free Ultimate Furniture Painting Guide

Painted canvas bags make great personalized gifts

I love to paint fabric....I'm sure you've figured this out by now! I get it...not everyone wants to paint their jeans or their overalls. But how about drop cloths?? Or drop cloth fabric made into things like aprons or curtains or these painted canvas bags??

I bought these little zippered bags at Hobby Lobby for $1.99 each....but on sale I got them for $1!!!!!

You can afford to mess up a lot of these while you learn for only a dollar!!! So listen up....go get yourself some!

All you need is your bags....and a few jars of your favorite colors of Dixie Belle Paints......and you're set!

Set yourself up just like this.....

I stuff the bag with a folded-over plastic grocery bag....you can use saran wrap or parchment paper...whatever you want that will keep your color from seeping through to the backside.

Have handy a few cups with fresh water.....a few paintbrushes.....a sharpie marker.....paper towels and paper plates.

Sketch out (not perfectly...just roughly sketch) your design on the canvas.

Begin using a watercolor technique and fill in the background around your design first. Be free with it. Let your colors blend naturally.

Dip your brush in paint....then a lot of water...then right onto your fabric. Use light strokes and let the paint flow naturally with the water. Keep it fun and easy and don't be stressed. It should be relaxing!!

Then begin filling in your design. Do the same thing here...use lots of water and be free with your strokes. Again...allow the colors to blend naturally. If you look closely at my designs you will see that I do NOT stay inside the lines! This is NOT meant to be neat and tidy and tight! It is supposed to appear free and fun and organic!

Once dry.....I heat set the sharpie marker by covering the bag with parchment paper and running a hot iron over it for about a minute.

I then spray the bag with Easy Peasy Spray Wax by Dixie Belle. This sets the paint!

I make these bags often and use them as personal gifts and even as giveaways for my business!
