Coral Accent Table: A Stunning Makeover in a Single Color

Isn't she lovely? Sometimes less is more....and this is now. This beautifully shaped coral accent table was given a fresh update with just a single color of paint!

It didn't happen without having to make a difficult design decision which I hate to even admit to you!

Some Tough Design Decisions

I am always drawn to the kidney shaped pieces and I purchased this little table (actually there are TWO) without looking at it very closely. I honestly believed the set to be antique. However, I have since found them online to be a reproduction.

I loved the glass panels but didn't notice that several were cracked and some were very loose. I also didn't check the functionality of the little door only to realize they are poorly fit and drag terribly when opening and closing them which is a huge problem for painted furniture.

So, knowing I could not replace the broken glass panels easily and I didn't really want to take the door off and try to plane and refit, I made the decision to just secure the broken panels and....PAINT THE GLASS! And because the doors didn't function well at all, I made the decision to just PAINT THE DOORS CLOSED!!!

Coral Painted Kidney Shaped Accent Table

I am prepared to be scolded by some of you and I'm ok with that.

I just felt the tables were too cute to cast aside and they could still serve the purpose as beautiful accent tables even without the ability to store or display items on the inside.

Sometimes you just have to decide if you really want to put the time, effort and cost into something and these tables just weren't that for me!

However I believe they are stunning in their new color and I'm here to tell you how I achieved this simple finish.

The Cleaning Process

I sprayed the table with an ample amount of White Lightning.

I wiped back the White Lightning with a paper towel.

I followed with an ample amount of sprayed water and wiped dry.

The Priming Process

As always, I chose Boss in Gray.

I painted the entire piece, including the glass panels, in this amazing primer. One coat provided ample coverage.

I allowed this to dry for several hours before moving onto the paint process.

The Paint Process

This gorgeous color is called Cottage Door by Dixie Belle Paint. The color sits between pink and coral and it gives off the most incredible soft hue.

I applied one coat.

Once dry I followed with a second thin coat using a light mist of water for a buttery smooth finish.

The Gilding Process

Using my favorite little tin of creamy gold and my finger tip, I applied the gilding wax to the carved areas as well as the beaded trim.

I used a small artist brush to apply the gold gilding wax to the teardrop knob as well.

I allowed the gold wax 24 hours to cure before the finishing process.

The Finishing Process

I chose to finish this coral accent table in Best Dang Wax Clear.

It is not a finishing process that I use often but there was something about this powdery color that I wanted to see with a clear wax. Clear wax also gives a soft buttery hue and I felt that would be perfect for this color.

I applied it using my Best Dang Wax brush in a circular motion. I allowed this to soak in for about 30 minutes and then buffed off any excess with the white finishing pad.

The Finished Look: Coral Accent Table

This is the final look! I LOVE it!

Even with the loss of the glass panels and storage ability.....I still find the finished look to be just gorgeous!! I can just see these flanking the side of a cottage styled bedroom in mostly whites....using the tables to be the pop of color in the room!

I haven't completed the second table just yet....but when I do I will post the pair on my social media!

This was such an easy project! Every once in a while I need to step away from the heavily detailed pieces.....and this felt good!

More Inspiration: Monochromatic

One color pieces can be just as impressive! I'd love to share other monochromatic pieces that have a bold impact on the space. While that isn't my go-to design style, I sure love it when I do create in this way!
